STRATEGIES 101
The richest 1% of adults in the world own 40% of the planet's wealth, according to the largest study yet of wealth distribution. The report also finds that those in financial services and the internet sectors predominate among the richest.

Europe, the US and some Asia Pacific nations account for most of the extremely wealthy. More than a third live in the US. Japan accounts for 27% of the total, the UK for 6% and France for 5%.  UN Report / 2006

This project deals with the world´s contemporary political and socioeconomic situation, mediatic manipulation and information monopoly.  Beyond the usual information channels that are in charge of providing the reality memorandum, this work establishes the visual and perceptual grounds to refuse the sophisticated pre-packaged video news releases.  It aims to question social policies that, disguised in financial and economic saviours, instead sharpen socio-economic inequalities. Concentrated wealth distribution and the alienation and hypnotization (at it´s highest peak I believe in history) to which communications technology has pushed the world´s population, are some of the main worries that have motivated this project.

NOTA DE PRENSA / CLEAR, TRANSPARENT, POISON
En la obra reciente de Tania Blanco (Valencia, 1978) confluyen diversos vectores, entre los que caben destacar la preocupación por el clima sociopolítico más reciente, las relaciones entre individuo, tecnología y naturaleza, y  la búsqueda de códigos personales de expresión que reflexionen en los soportes utilizados, todo ello formando un conjunto que, aunque interdisciplinar, se halla fuertemente marcado por la presencia de la pintura.
Clean Transparent Poison es el sugerente título bajo el que la artista presenta una selección de sus últimos trabajos en la galería Punto. El conjunto de pinturas con el que comienza la exposición, caracterizada por el formato tondo (circular), constituye una poliédrica muestra de algunos de los temas que vertebran el discurso de Tania Blanco: desde la amenaza nuclear latente en Royal Grey Suite, donde unos humanos clónicos contemplan el horizonte enfundados en trajes antirradiación, hasta el pulido firmamento donde se leen los nombres de las veinticinco empresas más contaminantes del aire de Estados Unidos, bajo el descriptivo título 25 air polluters, pasando por piezas donde la extrañeza visual arrastra al espectador a un inquietante universo, como la enigmática pieza titulada Gliphosphate, un cautivador ejercicio de metapintura, o Not Us, lienzo desde el que nos contempla una poco tranquilizadora oficial del ejército del aire estadounidense.

Estrechamente relacionados con estas pinturas, forman parte de la muestra una serie de “libros”, que no son sino esculturas cerámicas pintadas por la artista. Presumiblemente salvados de las llamas, a juzgar por las marcas de fuego que ostentan, en ocasiones casi consumiéndolos, los títulos de algunos de estos libros son una alusión directa a un presente considerado distópico, similar al que importantes escritores señalaron como el posible devenir de la sociedad occidental: 1984 de Orwell o Un mundo Feliz de Huxley nos marcan la línea crítica por la que discurren y se entrecruzan mensajes relativos al control de la población, la manipulación mediática o los excesos cometidos por la élite económico-militar en diversos acontecimientos recientes, como la invasión a Libia, reflejada en una irónica recreación del diario New York Times.

Completan el montaje, de carácter instalativo, intervenciones pictóricas sobre el muro, maquetas y pequeñas piezas que articulan un juego de resonancias y relaciones entre las obras. La exposición se cierra con un vídeo de la artista y un ciclo de vídeo en el que se exhibe una recopilación de vídeos extraídos de youtube, seleccionados por el modo en que presentan diversas problemáticas recientes en el contexto de la información ajena a los medios de comunicación oficiales.

Nota de prensa:
Tania Blanco (Valencia, 1978) presenta una selección de sus últimos trabajos en la Galería Alarcón Criado, agrupados bajo el título The Holy Bubble . La exposición se compone de un grupo de pinturas de formato redondo, una serie de fotografías y algunas pequeñas esculturas, todo ello planteado como un conjunto de elementos que dialogan entre sí. Las imágenes que componen la muestra nos hablan principalmente de la relación del ser humano con la naturaleza, en la que la tecnología y la medicina actúan como mediadoras. Esta relación nos es mostrada unas veces¬ bajo un aspecto de inquietante despersonalización y otras bajo un lado más amable y cercano.
La serie de pinturas de formato redondo nos muestra un universo donde las representaciones del cuerpo se relacionan entre sí, agrupando formas tan dispares como la pintura renacentista, los modelos anatómicos o la robótica. Dentro de este espectro de posibilidades, diversos modos de representación se hibridan formando relaciones inesperadas, en las que la microfotografía convive con los mapas de acupuntura, los esquemas celulares o la arquitectura entendida como cuerpo. La claridad en la ejecución de estas pinturas, sin rastro de gestualidad, recrea la asepsia que el mundo médico implanta como norma en sus modelos representacionales, y es acentuada por otros recursos como el halo circular azul celeste que actúa como fondo en gran parte de las piezas.
La serie de fotografías, de fuerte componente abstracto, son presentadas como parte de un banco de imágenes, cuya clasificación podemos leer en la franja blanca de la parte inferior. Las placas petri y las agujas hipodérmicas nos sitúan en un contexto de laboratorio, en lo que parece un estudio de tejidos celulares sin identificar, aunque la ausencia de datos donde enmarcar estas imágenes posibilita un rango de lectura abierto.
Alterando el carácter supuestamente objetivo de la imagen científica mediante su apropiación y posterior transformación en imagen artística, Tania Blanco construye un entramado de relaciones simbólicas que nos remite tanto a la fusión como a la oposición entre lo natural y lo tecnológico, el arte y la ciencia, lo humano y lo animal, y en las que la presencia de la medicina se percibe frecuentemente como invasora e inquietante. Estas imágenes de ojos mecánicos, paisajes celulares, laboratorios secretos y robots antropomorfos hablan de un mundo silencioso y detenido,  donde en ocasiones el ser humano parece ser un complemento accesorio, constituido por fragmentos de su propio cuerpo reemplazables y seriados. Las diversas citas al modelo de representación renacentista, asimismo, apuntan a estas imágenes como pistas para iniciar un proceso de  reflexión acerca de la construcción del sujeto, inmerso en estructuras de poder que delimitan su propia percepción del cuerpo. La ciencia o el arte, esas burbujas en las que nos reflejamos y reconocemos, también nos aíslan del otro lado.

The photographic serie Cell Pearls looks at the world of the microscopic, cellular environments, the behaviour of microorganisms, organic mechanisms… which appear to be seen as if through advanced hi-tech optical media. But these balloon-like mounds are far from coming from any lab test tube. They are the records of a working process, with a deliberate renunciation of Photoshop or any other digital retouching. The  strategically placed lights and the evocative features of the material employed are the only resources used in creating this work endowed with a wet crystal-like feel.  The photographs have a white band at the bottom.  The caption is a code, together with a title identifying the series, followed by the artist’s surname.  The composition directly alludes to the lay-out of image banks and to the separation and grouping by thematic blocks. The variations in the temperature of the colours and the codes, with a typography with a highly standardised appearance (Arial), are also reminiscent of pantone colour guides for house paint, thus establishing a parallel with the standardisation and limitation of what comes from mechanical-industrial repetition and production.

“The nuclear matter of this exhibition is again the conflict between the work of man and that of nature, what is built by the hand of the individual (that hand, which at some previous moment of the artist´s artwork offered pills of landscapes, tablets of habitat, and pastilles of ecosystem) and what is not built by any hand.  The difficult relationship between our appetite and the consequences of being craving animals (too craving for being too human).

I think Tania Blanco´s paintings are of a mental nature; her landscapes without ceasing to be rooted in the real turn frequently towards oneiric geographies.  We could say that both matter in space as well as its void are the reflective task: what is offered to our view as much as the view that is not being offered.  In her architectures, the suggested horizon, the air around, are almost as important as the buildings themselves (let us recall, in addition, Santayana´s splendid aphorism: The outdoors are also a form of architecture).”

(VACUUM DOME EPILOGUE) 2008-2011
The body of SLEEP-DRUNK VADEMECUM is made up of a large set of rounded painting formats.  It is an open project still in process that started in the middle of 2008.  Medical instruments, high precision techonology, scientific devices, anatomical models, clandestine laboratories and human representation become the object of study and thought.  The bizarre represented objects reflect a mixture of past and future, and an ambiguous clinical atmosphere flows in them.  On many of these painted surfaces, a soft cool-cold gradient isolates the represented elements and gives a non-gravitational character to the compositions.  The project is based on a choral visual basis.  The groups of images altogether represent the discourse, giving great importance to the different parts that give sense to the work as a whole.
